Peter Kollwitz

studies at the Berlin Art Academy, but in 1914, against his parents' wishes, he volunteered to join the German army.

Before even seeing combat, he was killed by a stray bullet in Diksmuide, Belgium on October 22, 1914, at the age of 18.

His mother, the sculptor Käthe Kollwitz, works for years on his gravestone. In 1932, The Mourning Parents are placed in the Roggeveld cemetery (B).

Since 1956, the sculpture group stands in the German military cemetery Vladslo, municipality of Diksmuide (B).
