Johan Antheunis

grows up in Axel, Zeeland. He studies natural sciences in Leiden and later pharmacy.

At the Soesterberg Military Airbase he obtained his pilot's license. Shortly thereafter he had a motorcycle accident and suffered severe brain damage.

In a Swiss spa he likely made his first international arms deals, also for the Spanish Republic.

Starting in March 1938, he participates in the Spanish Civil War for the Republicans. Much to his frustration, despite his pilot's license, he is deployed as an infantryman. Johan dies on a patrol tour, aged 27.
