Eleanor, the little daughter of Hava Volovich
is born in the Gulag in November 1943.
Her mother, a critical journalist, was arrested in 1937 at the age of 21, and placed in a re-education camp. The work there is hard and the living conditions are miserable.
Little Eleonor is a source of joy for her. However, the children's care is sickening and harsh. On March 3, 1944, Eleonor dies.
After her release in 1953, Hava published about her years in various Gulag camps.
